She Cannae Take It, Captain!

It's been awhile since I last updated this blog. The reason for this is because I was feeling a little bit burnt out after having to update my WordPress almost daily. I've decided to give up on that for the time being since I really don't have the energy to do it justice. I'm going to turn my attention back to Kuroneko Doumei for the time being. This is my main blog after all.

It's been quite a busy couple of weeks at university. I attended the International Film Festival at the university and saw a couple of interesting films. One was a Chinese film called Blind Shaft, which painted a bleak picture of China's mining industry. The other film was a Japanese one called After Life. That one was a lot more optimistic about things /laugh! It was a very thought-provoking film that made you reflect on your own life so far. It was directed in such a way that it was almost like the people in the film were narrating their own lives. I later found out that some of the cast did actually recount their own lives for the film, hence why they seemed so genuine.

On the academic front, I've got a 1,500 word essay due in on the 31st October, and a 10-15 minute presentation to prepare with my partner. At first I was really worried about the essay. Having been over four years since I last wrote an essay, I was sure that I would screw it up completely. And I did for the first two drafts. Thankfully, I borrowed a book on essay writing from the library and it's helped me enormously. I now have confidence in what I write and my third draft is coming along nicely. For the presentation, my partner and I have managed to get the introduction done, as well as start research on the main content. We don't have such a strict deadline on this, so it allows us to work in a bit more of a leisurely pace than the essay.

The Japanese Language lessons are going fine. I'm really enjoying them, even though I've covered all the material before. The tutors are fantastic and so much fun to learn from. On my Asia Pacific module, though, I'm not having such a good time. I always knew that this would be my weakest module but I didn't know it would be so difficult to understand. It seems like I come out of the lecture without having learnt anything about the subject we just covered. I'm hope that it's just me being too pessimistic but I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to pass this module. Guess I'll just have to study harder.

Guuzen No Kakuritsu

Man, I've given myself quite a lot of work by starting a new blog on WordPress. I've been trying to keep that updated after every lesson but I'm already falling behind because there are so many of them. That's on top of updating this blog as often as I can and trying to keep up with my reading list. Still, I can't complain, it's nice to be busy for a change. I feel that I finally have something to work hard for. The initial anxiety about university life has gone and I'm beginning to really enjoy myself. That might change once I get my first assignment (/laugh) but for now everyday has been enjoyable. Well...apart from the noisy parties the flatmates have sometimes but that's not completely unbearable. I just need to get myself a good pair of earplugs!

There was a presentation today by Daito Bunka University to promote their international exchange students program. It was mainly for the second year students but a few of us first years went along anyway. The talk turned out to be really interesting. I was really keen on going to a university that wasn't too far away from Tokyo and I think I've found that in Daito Bunka University. It has campuses in Tokyo and Saitama, and offers a wide variety of undergraduate courses. The accommodation fees are really cheap (they're cheaper than what I'm paying currently in fact) which is amazing considering that it's in a big city. The teacher who coordinates the exchange program (the one giving the talk) was really pretty too, so I think that sealed the deal for me! /laugh It's Daito Bunka University for me in 2010!
